|Description||:||Barry Summer Extra Part One
The first section of a multi-part scenario for the JT Western Mainlines. Part one commences at Cardiff Central with a Barry Town "Extra". Part two will follow with the run to Exeter St Davids, then depending on the actual release date of the extension to this route a third part may follow afterwards.
Following a long tradition on the old ex-GWR lines, Summer Saturdays have several time dated extra services using locos normally associated with weekday freight heading towards the more popular South West destinations. As described above the eventual destination of this train will depend on the release date of the expected extension to the Western Mainlines route, but as this part one only goes as far as Weston Super Mare, then this one is a valid standalone scenario, with other parts to be announced.
Set in 1975, TOPS had been introduced, the Class 50s had started to arrive from the North for the faster expresses. However there's a few Westerns still around as well...
Having brought your train in from Barry Town, please make your stop next ready for a departure in a few minutes. For a Saturday there still seems a fair bit of freight around, but back then South Wales had a lot of industry, much of which has sadly gone. As any spare Saturday paths are available in the main due to unused weekend freight services, then you will find this train is by no means an express!
Allow around 80 minutes for this.
Due to a general lack of suitable BR Blue locomotives with the strictly correct details for the 1970s(Marker lights but no headcodes?) a few liberties have been taken, but we think the result should still be enjoyable. A large number of IHH engines are also present, although most could be swapped out if needed with RW_Tools. It also heavily uses the excellent but unfortunately withdrawn Class 37 Pack from RSC. The only alternative would be the "stock" split headcode ones, which although not unknown to visit the area, were still the exception for the full spirit of the South Wales scene at the time....
Edit. A modified version just using the "Default" Class 37 is now also included.
Also please ensure at Newport that you pull right up to the signal, as otherwise there is a real risk the rear of your train has a glancing blow from a following service......
